LMT,
Inc. (Larry Miller Trucking, Inc.) runs a terminal
for SRE (Stony Run Enterprises, Inc.). LMT, Inc.
has seventeen trucks and several brokers. We do
transportation for many large chemical companies
in the greater Cincinnati, OH area, and an agriculture
product company. We are a family run operation.
Larry Miller is the terminal manager. Pat Miller
is his wife and bookkeeper for the company. Amy
Updike, the dispatcher, is a daughter. Vanessa Miller,
the billing clerk, is a daughter-in-law. Adam Miller,
head mechanic, is a son. Brett Updike, safety director,
is a son-in-law. Grandchildren are employed on a
part time basis to pick up garbage. Family is very
important to our company. You are not just a number.
LMT,
Inc. pays commission of the gross. The driver makes
more if he receives commission. Payroll is weekly
and two weeks behind. We pay 22% for the first six
months and 23% thereafter. We are looking for business
partners. You do your job and we do ours. You get
your piece of the pie and we get ours. When rates
go up the driver gets a raise. They have went up
for three different companies this year. Our drivers
average $40,000 to $50,000 a year. Some make $50,000
to $53,000 a year driving Agriculture. It depends
on what the driver wants to do. Drivers are dispatched
by seniority. We have local, regional, and over
the road work. Local work is determined by that
you will be in the immediate area and home at night.
Regional is determined by you will not be able to
deliver the load and return to the terminal before
you run out of hours of service. Over the road is
gone for more than two days. We have Agriculture
where the driver delivers herbicide all over the
Eastern United States and you may be out for one
to two weeks at a time. The local pays a lesser
amount. The regional pays more and the over the
road of course pays the best.
The
driver is responsible for pre-trip of the vehicle.
You must be on time at the customer to load and
on time to deliver.
All
drivers are expected to abide by DOT regulations.
You do not run over weight, over hours, or with
unsafe equipment. There are four safety meetings
a year that you are expected to attend.
BROKERS
We
lease broker or owner operators. They are paid by
commission. They also receive 100% of the fuel
surcharge. (IFTA) taxes are paid by the company.
Health Insurance is available but payable by the
broker. The need now is herbicide deliveries. It is
over the road, and pays very well. We only have so
many slots for the herbicide deliveries to fill.
Company provides the cargo insurance, the broker
must have bobtail insurance. Plates are available
but payable by the broker. Owner
operators can lease trucks to Stony Run Enterprises,
Inc. to do regional and over the road deliveries.
Brokers are paid per cent commission. Road taxes
are paid by the company. Health insurance is available.
Commission is paid weekly.
BENEFITS
After
90 days LMT, Inc. pays for the drivers health benefits
in full. Health insurance is available for spouse
and dependents, but payable by the employee. The
amount will be deducted from the pay check and paid
in monthly for coverage. The health insurance is
